You have to own this if you have a M43 system camera!, October 12, 2011 By Amazon Verified Purchase This review is from: M.ZUIKO DIGITAL ED 45 mm 1:1.8 (Electronics) I was in a big debate as of late. I wanted to jump into the Nex or Alpha line from Sony. Each time I pulled the pre-order trigger on a camera I canceled it in doubt. One of the reasons is because I have a very special place in my heart for Olympus. Boy I am glad I made the choice I did. This Olympus 45mm is what has changed my mind completely. This lens represents a strong commitment from the Micro Four Thirds consortium to provide true photo enthusiasts a well thought out and complete system. Needless to say I am a prime lens fan. I don't remember the last zoom lens I wanted to shoot, of course this is just my opinion. I think Olympus and Panasonic have clearly shown their product is far more mature than the Nex lineup, but that does not mean they should rest easy. Sony has some very compelling tech and if M43 want's to remain competitive there is going to need to be a serious look at sensor quality.

However, right I front I will state this lens is overpriced. This is a 45mm lens. If you look at Nikon and Canon, their 50mm f/1.8 are around $200 and these cover a full size 35mm sensor (FX). The m4/3 sensor is � of the size so the lens should even be cheaper than that. Now this 45mm lens gives the equivalent focal length of a 90mm on a FX sensor and those lenses are more expensive. That is true but this is still a 45mm lens and they are cheaper to make then 90mm lenses. Many of the m4/3 lenses are overpriced in my opinion. However, you need to factor in m4/3 lens research costs and the smaller user base. In time (a couple of years), I think you will see the lens prices come down to where they should be. Especially, since 3rd party manufactures are getting into the business.
Anyway, this lens gives an equivalent view as a 90mm lens on a FX sensor. This is known as a portrait lens. The range for portrait lenses is... Read more
